We’ve heard it said, “good things come in small packages.” Yes, bigger is not always better. Sometimes it’s a little thing that has great worth. I read about a pro football player who went jet skiing and lost an earring—a diamond earring–in a Georgia lake. They say he hired a dive team to try to retrieve the little gem, which was valued at over $100,000. I’d call that a precious stone.
The Bible is a large book with 1,189 chapters. If you want some great encouragement, just look at the Bible’s smallest chapter: Psalm 117. Here are two short verses packed with long lasting value: “Praise the LORD, all nations! Extol Him, all peoples! For great is His steadfast love toward us, and the faithfulness of the LORD endures forever. Praise the LORD!”
From beginning to end, this micro Psalm says everyone everywhere should be praising the Lord. We should all be always lifting our hallelujahs to Him. Let us return thanks and worship Him with all we’ve got.
We are also told why we should be praising Him: because God loves us with great, steadfast love. One translation has it, “His loyal love towers over us.” Wow. This little verse tells us God’s love is big.
And no matter what, God can always be counted on—His faithfulness endures forever. He is true and faithful to His people from now into the ever after.
So, dwell on God’s love for us in Christ, which is “wide and long and high and deep” (Ephesians 3:18). Meditate on how steady and unchanging He is “yesterday and today and forever” (Hebrews 13:8). People everywhere are trusting God through Jesus and praising Him for His love and faithfulness. These kernels of truth can grow fields of joy in your heart.
