We prayed and God answered! A group of five adults and nine students from our church served last week at Slippery Rock Baptist Camp in Slippery Rock, Pennsylvania. This year we helped with maintenance projects, the craft store, and their day camp for elementary children. Slippery Rock is a little more than 500 miles from Indian River, and definitely a bit warmer. Those mid to upper 80’s temps took a little getting used to. But I was so pleased with how hard our team worked together, and God really blessed us with strength and unity. On the last day of camp, seven children prayed to receive Jesus as their Savior. As the Bible says, “Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved” (Romans 10:13). This is what we had hoped and prayed for in all our months of preparation. We asked God to work through us to bring some young people into His family forever. One of the teen girls in our group partially tore her hamstring on the trip. She had to be taken to the local walk-in clinic because her pain was so bad. But I saw her with crutches and a leg brace talking with a camper about receiving God’s gift of eternal life through faith. I asked her about the little girl she was talking to, and with tears in her eyes she said, “She just became a Christian!” Jesus told His disciples, “Let the little children come to Me . . . for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these” (Matthew 19:14). We praise God that we could witness His beautiful saving grace, as some Pennsylvania kids joined us in believing the gospel of Jesus Christ.
