Mark 7:24-30
This passage is shocking at first because Jesus refers to a foreign lady as a “dog,” (more literally, “doggie,” or “puppy”) in contrast to the Jewish “children.” But here we see a woman’s humble faith tested, proven, as well as Jesus’ compassion and power being both tested and proven. It is interesting this comes right after Jesus’ teaching on what was clean vs. unclean. This story contrasts the faith of a Gentile woman with the unbelief of the Pharisees and scribes earlier in the chapter. It also foreshadows the command of Jesus to go into all the world and preach the gospel everywhere and to everyone.
