My daughter, Christe, is a graduate of Harbor Light Christian School and North Central Michigan College. She wrote this week’s Up North Devotion for us.
“You are still my first love, and all I am is Yours; You are still my anchor, Forever I’m secure” (from Chris Tomlin’s song, First Love). This song means so much to me because it reminds me of Jesus’ great love for me, and how I need to choose Him as my first love.
I became a Christian at the age of five, and I thought it was the coolest thing! I memorized Bible verses in Sunday School and sang all the songs. Slowly I went from being excited about God to going through the motions and treating it like it was just another thing to do. But now I’ve learned more about God’s love.
Songs like Chris Tomlin’s are refreshing to the soul and a reminder that I need to choose God as my first love every day! I have various kinds of relationships in my life, and I am challenged through the Bible that I need to keep my relationship with God number one. Everything else comes second.
Is God your first love? I challenge you this week to read John 3 and discover how God showed everyone the greatest love story of all time. After reading, all we can do is kneel and praise Him then commit to Him as our first love! Trust me you will not regret the decision of following God, I certainly have not. God will always be your rock and fortress so you have nothing to fear about choosing Him.
I leave you these two verses to dwell on this week: “I love you, O LORD, my strength. The LORD is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer, my God, my rock, in whom I take refuge. My shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold” (Psalm 18:1-2). God Bless You!
