God doesn’t need instant replay. Now a days, many football games will have big plays reversed. The Detroit Lions have been famous for this over the years. I remember once the Lions thought they had won their game with a touchdown. But the instant replay showed the player was down just outside the end zone, so the call was reversed. The game was over. The Lions lost.
Usually the referees are very accurate officiating what they see right in front of them. But since they’re human, the officials can go re-watch a really close play in super slow motion and make sure they get the correct decision.
Our God, however, has never missed a call. He knows everything, including how many stars are in the sky (Psalm 147:4), and how many hairs are (or used to be) on your head (Matthew 10:30). God knows everything that has happened, will happen, or even might have happened (Luke 10:13).
God knows exactly what you need, before you even ask (Matthew 6:8). He knows every word you’ve said (Matthew 12:36) and every deed you’ve ever done—good or bad (2 Corinthians 5:10). “Nothing in all creation is hidden from God’s sight” (Hebrews 4:13); “His understanding is beyond measure” (Psalm 147:5).
That God knows precisely everything about you is a frightening thought, because we must all “give account” for ourselves (Hebrews 4:13). The good news is, if you realize you need forgiveness, God offers it to you freely by faith in His Son. It’s in Jesus that we can “draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need” (Hebrews 4:16).
God doesn’t need instant replay. But the instant you call on Him in faith, He’ll save you–and He’ll never reverse that call (see Luke 23:39-43).
