Are you wondering where to read next in your Bible? May I suggest to you the Old Testament prophet Zephaniah? If you want to get a better idea about God’s holiness, justice, and mercy, Zephaniah is your man. If you want to get a grasp on the coming judgment and blessings of the Day of the LORD, Zephaniah’s three short chapters are most insightful.
But if I could single out one unique and intriguing truth about God from Zephaniah, it would be this: God sings. His heart is filled with love for those He redeems, and He belts out a song for His beloved ones. The verse reads, “The LORD your God is in your midst, a mighty One who will save . . . He will exult over you with loud singing” (Zeph 3:17).
Can you even comprehend it? I’ve heard some beautiful choirs over the years and some strong soloists. But we’re talking the voice of God. The voice that sounds like rushing waters and rolling thunder (Ez 43:2; Jn 12:29). The Psalmist describes God’s voice as “powerful” and “full of majesty” (Ps 29:4). God’s voice can both create and calm a raging sea (Ex 20:11; Ps 89:9). And with His almighty voice, He sings a love song over His children.
I envision a time in heaven someday, when we’ve been there 10,000 years, and the worldwide choir of glorified saints has sung in perfect harmony the praises of God. When all of a sudden, God sings to us! Will it be His version of “Jesus Loves Me”? Maybe “Amazing Grace”? Whatever it is, we will be blown away. Standing ovation for another 10,000 years? Let your heart be lifted even now with thoughts on the God of heaven who saves and sings over the ones He loves.
