Life doesn’t always make sense. In fact, it’s as unpredictable as Northern Michigan weather. In 2024, they cancelled the U.P. sled dog races for lack of snow. This year the snow banks are higher than they’ve been in recent memory. As I write this, the sun is shining, but the temp is frigid. Go figure. But in our lives, we face much more serious stuff than the weather.
When the innocent suffer and the bad guys seem to win, it’s then we must bolster our faith. Psalm 145:17 will help us here: “The LORD is righteous in all His ways and kind in all His works.” I may not understand it now, but God is just, and He will judge the wicked in His time. And somehow, even in our difficulties, God is kind in all His works.
Ultimately, God is working all things together for our good, for those who love love Him (Romans 8:28). If life still doesn’t make sense, the next verse in Psalm 145 gives us more encouragement: “The LORD is near to all who call on Him, to all who call on Him in truth.”
When Moses saw the burning bush, God said to him, “do not come near . . . you are on holy ground” (Exodus 3:5). But in Christ, God has drawn near to us, and sanctified us (made us holy) so that we might live in His holy presence forever (Ephesians 2:13).
When Jesus died, the heavy curtain within the Jerusalem Temple was “torn in two, from top to bottom,” showing that now all people have access to God through faith in Christ (Matthew 27:51). Here is the gospel: not just that you can draw near to a holy God, but that He has drawn near to you! This is especially key to remember when you are in times of need–He is near. I hope this truths warm your heart today.
